Victoria Knot (Prince Albert Knot)

The Victoria Knot (Prince Albert Knot) is a charismatic, almost regal knot. It is related to the Four in Hand knot but instead of two the tie makes three turns before being lowered down the middle.

  1. Hang the tie around the collar with the wide part on the right and the narrow part slightly above navel height. The exact height depends on the stature and thickness of the tie. We only use the wide part when tying the tie.

  2. Slip the wide part horizontally over the narrow part of the tie.

  3. Slip the wide part back under the narrow part of the tie.
    Victoria 23
  4. Fold the wide part again horizontally in front of the narrow part of the tie.

  5. Slip the wide end back under the narrow end of the tie once more.

  6. Fold the wide end over the narrow end of the tie once more.

  7. Pull the wide section up along the neck.

  8. Insert through both loops at the front.

  9. Tighten the knot by pulling the wide part down and position the knot as desired. The first loop should be just visible under the second loop.

  • Result: Regarding form, it is somewhat the Four in Hand. In terms of volume thought it is thicker than the Four in Hand and more comparable to the Half Windsor. It is somewhat asymmetrical, creating a classic, elegant effect.
  • When to wear? The Victoria Knot is an excellent choice for thin or worn ties. It gives the tie a little bit of pep when it has become thinner through frequent use. But a normal tie can also come into its own with a Victoria Knot, elegant, stylish and robust.
  • Difficulty: *** (3 out of 5)

Victoria Knot: Background

The knot was first documented in 1944 in the Ashley Book of Knots. Sometimes it also gets the name Prince Albert (lover of this beautiful knot) or Double Knot.

I ordered a pair of braces as a Christmas gift for my friends husband. I didn\'t realise that you were based in the Netherlands but I needn\'t have worried. The braces arrived very quickly and I was impressed with the quality and also the price. I am very satisfied indeed. Thank you.
